a husband and wife spy team admitted to spying for cuba for almost 30 years. walter and gwendolyn myers began spying for cuba after they were recruited in south dakota and when he returned to his job at the state department. they got their orders over short wave radio and traded secrets by swapping shopping carts with their cuban handlers when shopping. they even got to spend a night with castro back in ‘95. for their crimes the husband (age 72) will spend the rest of his life in jail and the wife (age 71) will spend the next 7.5 years (she pled to conspiracy) and in addition will give up $1.7M bones and a big old yacht. their lawyer says they did it for “conscience and personal commitment” not for money.
