don’t worry general, this cover caused trouble too
if you haven’t heard by now, general stanley a. mcchrystal, commander of nato’s international security assistance force and u.s. forces-afghanistan screwed up big time when he ran his mouth to a reporter for rolling stone. in it he referred to vice president biden as ‘bite me’, said he thought the president was basically clueless, and called the head diplomat in afghanistan a ‘wounded animal.’ in all honesty, i read the article and they made it sound a lot worse than it is–the kinda stuff you say after a long day and after a long 9 years fighting in iraq and afghanistan i might be inclined to give him a little break.
admittedly the dude and his executive team do have a little lot jack nicholson/a few good men/ ‘you can’t handle the truth’ mixed with alec baldwin/malice/ ‘god complex’ in them but isn’t that what we want in the team responsible for bringing calm to one of the most desolate and dangerous places on earth?
the general is on his way to the white house for a little pow-wow with the president and it’s not clear whether he’ll get canned (the new york times is reporting that mcchrystal has drafted a resignation letter and it probably isn’t in powerpoint). before you count him out, remember that britney spears had her trouble too and look how she bounced back. america loves a great comeback story.
