‘houseboat’

chinalast week everyone was abuzz about the house that ruth didn’t build (the new yankee stadium).  i wonder if we’ll show the same interest in the ‘houseboats’ (i.e., the naval fleet) that we helped build due to our voracious apetite for credit when they go on display this week in china in celebration of the chinese navy’s 60th anniversary.

seems that of late that china has been on a mission to build a naval fleet that will someday compete with the us or japanese naval forces.  according to the bbc article,  ”china seems particularly keen to have an aircraft carrier – a warship that has symbolic power as well as practical uses…there has been intense speculation over recent months that beijing will soon announce its intention to develop its first aircraft carrier.”

but not to worry, expert analysts say that china can’t compete with the japanese and us naval forces “in no way is the Chinese navy on a par with the united states- or even japan,” said bates gill.

i’m not advocating military buildup (we can’t afford it) but, um, isn’t that what we said about ford, gm, and chrysler?
