hydrogen smydrogen
energy secretary steven chu announced that the department of energy is eliminating funding for hydrogen car research because the car would cost too much and it would take too long to come to fruition, “we asked ourselves, ‘is it likely in the next 10 or 15, 20 years that we will covert to a hydrogen car economy?’ the answer, we felt, was ‘no”. the department will, instead, put money behind other cars that will be available earlier (e.g., electric cars).
reaction to the move has caught both praise and criticism. union of concerned scientists david friedman disagrees and argues that all alternative-fuel cars come with drawbacks: “we keep jumping from silver bullet to silver bullet…it takes longer than that to revolutionize the auto industry.”
