operation enduring freedom marches on (and on, and on)
on october 7, 2001 former president george w. bush announced that operation enduring freedom was underway and we were officially at war with afghanistan. today (two terms and and 8 years later), president obama will announce the deployment of another 30K or so troups to afghanistan in hopes of ending the war once and for all. the president spent the day on the phone calling the russians (would love to hear what putin medvedev had to say given their history there), the french, the british and others explaining the new strategy and there is speculation that these countries will collectively add about 6,000 to the troops to the mix. oliver stone is so going to have a movie about this.
