this makes things a little hairy
the second sports related story in a week–this has to be a sacred bird record. the united arab emirates denied israeli tennis star shahar peer a visa to compete in the emirates championships. officials claim that this is not a continuation of the long-standing boycott against israel, but a measure to spare her from protest and harm due to growing anti-israel sentiment. time magazine says that the “dubai tennis tiff could very well be just the beginning of a serious downward spiral in diplomatic relations between Israel and the rest of the middle east. after years of gradually easing tensions following the camp david accords, israel’s relations with even moderate arab countries have become increasingly brittle since the gaza conflict and could easily worsen.”
reading stories like this, i really wonder what happens when they open the doors to the NYU campus in dubai.
