this won’t be good for foreign relations*
the english, unlike us (remember jamie-lynn and those girls in massachusetts, and bristol) have a problem with the rash of teen pregnancies (england has the highest teen pregnancy rate in europe) and they’re doing something about it by making sex education part of the national curriculum. they’re starting the education in kindergarten.
schools minister jim knight said “it’s vital that this information doesn’t come from playground rumor or the mixed messages from the media about sex…we are not talking about 5-year-old kids being taught sex…what we’re talking about for key stage 1 (ages 5-7) is children knowing about themselves, their differences, their friendships and how to manage their feelings.”
much like here in the u.s. (remember the mccain campaign accused barack obama of wanting to teach kids of the same age about sex?) not everyone is happy about it. some parents want to control what their children learn in this arena, others are happy for the support.
i just wonder whether a president mccain and vice president palin would refuse to meet with a rogue country like this without the precondition of removing this element of the english way of life.
