tricky dick (part deux)

you may have heard that former president richard nixon received the nickname “tricky dick” from the democrats in an ad they created to highlight his shady dealings (he also had the nicknames iron butt, mad monk, and gloomy gus).  they may have to pull that old nickname out of the archives and hand it over to former vice president dick cheney.  if what they’re saying is true, sometime after september 11, 2001, cheney ordered the cia to mislead congress (witholding informatin) to conceal counterterrorism activities.  the article says “in the tense months after sept. 11, when bush administration officials believed new qaeda attacks could occur at any moment, intelligence officials brainstormed about radical countermeasures. it was in that atmosphere that the unidentified program was devised and deliberately concealed from congress, officials said.”  it goes on to say that “cheney was the bush administration’s most vehement defender of the secrecy of government activities, particularly in the intelligence arena.”  apparently, the domestic program was so secret that it pissed of the fbi who were often on-deck to follow-up on tips that came through as a result of the work. i guess that means that they didn’t have any context (cause it was top secret) and they were essentially flying blind.

i only hope that some day dick decides he wants to make a little money (i.e., he runs through his haliburton cash) and he needs to take an interview with a sly british guy.  here’s a preview of how i think it will go*.

* actually, i think dick will be less polite.
