we prefer "gayestan"
seems that the inhabitants of the island of lesbos in greece tried to pass some legislation that would outlaw the use of the word lesbian because it insulted their identity. dimitris lambrou, chief litigant, claimed that international dominance of the word in its sexual context violated the human rights of the islanders – who call themselves lesbians – and disgraces them around the world. he claimed that it caused daily problems to the social life of lesbos’ residents. an athens court ruled there was no justification for the claim and forced mr. lambrou to pay the court fees associated with the case.
news of the story and failed attempt reached the residents of bushland, tx but it has not deterred them one bit. they are raising a similar petition and are vowing to take it all the way to the supreme court to make george w. bush stop using his name.*
*i’m totally kidding about the petition but it is what i would do if i was ever living in or around there or in cheney, wa,
