you’re not socialists, you’re hippies

the republican senators held up meetings of the judiciary, energy and natural resources, and get this– the senate armed forces (even though they flew in commanders from korea and hawaii to testify) committees. the party so much more concerned than the whimpy democrats about the safety of the american people and more importantly about the safety of the soldiers in the middle of fighting a war decided that they’d cancel a meeting on security to prove a point–that they’re mad about health care so they had a sit-out (instead of a sit-in).

they’re enacting a little known rule (senaterule 26 5) that allows them to stop a meeting that extends after 2 p.m.–according to the rule, there needs to be consent for a meeting to extend beyond the two hour mark.  it reads:

Notwithstanding any other provision of the rules, when the Senate is in session, no committee of the Senate or any subcommittee thereof may meet, without special leave, after the conclusion of the first two hours after the meeting of the Senate commenced and in no case after two o’clock postmeridian unless consent therefor has been obtained from the majority leader and the minority leader (or in the event of the absence of either of such leaders, from his designee). The prohibition contained in the preceding sentence shall not apply to the Committee on Appropriations or the Committee on the Budget. The majority leader or his designee shall announce to the Senate whenever consent has been given under this subparagraph and shall state the time and place of such meeting. The right to make such announcement of consent shall have the same priority as the filing of a cloture motion.

in all fairness, it must be noted that the democrats have used this tactic before during the clinton administration. sounds to me like the republicans are becoming community organizersof an angry mob.

Could they be socialists AND hippies? Lol

could you a) imagine working for an organization that required “consent” to hold a meeting after 2 pm and b) just basically saying “no” to everyone b/c you’re mad? these people need to get REAL JOBS.
