year in review 2008
and so sacredbird began publishing on march 16, 2008 as an inside joke (and a way to make our day jobs palatable). close to 400 posts later one of us is no longer at said day job (yippee!!) and we’re still loving our sacredbird (the site AND the man). so let’s take a look back at our favorite stories from this inaugural year.
in bird watching
- he’s happy for lindsay and samantha though (630) – it sums up why we love him. as kelly ripa pointed out, andy is a man who after reporting on the front lines of a war will return to his hotel room and turn on the living lohan.
- word (180) – kelly ripa calls him delicious. andy giggles.
in business and economy
- as good as money in the bank (630) – my paper hermes crocodile kelly bag business is really starting to take off.
- from 10,000 feet should we run it up the flagpole? (180) – the stuff we say at work makes me want to swear off of kool aid. besides, it adds absolutely no value.
in culture
- santa is a community organizer (630) – it offers a new role model for all my community organizer peeps.
- secrets to beating off old age (180) – by far the best headline we’ve written so far. still makes me laugh.
in media
- he’s no “dream date” and was there a big sale or something? (630) – it was hard to pinpoint just one story in the media category but i would narrow it down to these two. i picked the first because despite what was said, many will disagree and say he is a “dream date” and second because this story reminds me that despite all the gloom and doom news stories, there’s also a little fun that can be found in watching the news.
- games people play (180) – learning more about what anchors do in their free time is fun (he he).
in politics and government
- front pages (630) – living in new york, one tends to forget that the rest of the country isn’t quite like us new yorkers and taking a look at the front pages of the some local papers a little less than a month away from the election was an eye opener.
- front pages and you don’t need a passport to go to six flags (180) – ditto 630. the second one, it just came so easily.
in science and technology
- better than “rat” (630) – without the mouse, i don’t know how our readers would navigate the sacredbird website.
- that’s how he got the name smokey (180) – we love us our bear stories.
in world
- we all deal with stress in different ways (630) – even world leaders are human and have nervous habits.
- we prefer ‘gayestan’ (180) – it’s good to know that other countries have stupid people too.
