annoyingbird…
this afternoon i looked out the window at a summer lightening/thunderstorm and noticed that pigeons (rats with wings) were dive bombing the street looking intently for shelter from the coming storm.
it reminded me of a story i came across a while ago about blackbird nesting season in chicago. cyclists and pedestrians minding their own business complained of being pecked after being chased for over 100 yards by the not-so-peaceful birds. red winged blackbird mating season, which ends this month, causes the birds to defend their territory ferociously. there is one bird, so fierce in his defense of his nest that locals have named him the city calls hitchcock (remember the movie). a video of the old chap in action can be found here.
