people suck sometimes
a couple in south korea was arrested for child neglect–their daughter died of malnutrition. here’s the depressing part–the parents neglected their real-life child in order to raise a virtual child on the interwebs. the article said the couple “were hooked on an online game called “Prius,” where they were raising a virtual daughter…They admitted to feeding their child rotten powdered milk, frequently spanking her, and leaving her at home during marathon sessions at the “PC bang” gaming clubs that are a staple of Korean gamer culture.” even more sad, this isn’t the only death attributed to an obsession with gaming in korea–some dude died in 2005 after a 50 hour marathon session. it’s such a problem that the country is considering legislation to curb excessive gaming.
