did you know?
the u.s. is all abuzz about the ridiculous amount of snow that has fallen this winter. as the midwest begins to recover from the wallop they just got and the east coast braces for another couple feet, i thought it’d be good to find you some news you can use about snow. i googled “where has it never snowed in the u.s.?” and navigated to a page on u.s.a. today with a bunch of interesting facts about the cold powdery stuff. did you know:
- that homestead, florida is the southernmost place in the u.s. where snow has been recorded? (it snowed there in 1977).
- mount ranier in washington state gets the most snow in the country?
- a storm becomes a blizzard when the wind blows at 35 mph and visibility is reduced to less than 1/4 mile?
- silver lake, colorado had the most snow ever? (back in 1921–75.8″ of snow fell there one day in april)
- 10″ of melted snow is equal to about 1″ of rain?
for more about snow, you can find check out the national snow and ice data center.
p.s. i still love that kid from jerry macguire.
