don’t put lipstick on that pig!
’cause you might catch something. the pig has had quite a year. first, the now president of the united states took one for the team when there was a claim that he called sarah palin, then candidate for the vp job a “pig” (he didn’t). now, the latest flu epidemic is the swine flu. what is the swine flu, you may ask? and should you care? here’s a few answers from a q&a that was developed by the bbc:
- what is swine flu? swine flu is a respiratory disease which infects pigs. it’s caused by influenza type a and there are regular outbreaks among herds of pigs, where the disease causes high levels of illness but is rarely fatal.
- ok, but why should humans beware? human-to-human transmission of swine flu is thought to spread in the same way as seasonal flu. in the latest outbreak it is clear that the disease is being passed from person to person.
- which is more dangerous in mexico—the drug cartels or the flu? i’m not sure, really. mexico seems to be the ground zero of this latest outbreak. here’s the skinny–they’ve found cases in new zealand, france, isreal, canada, spain, and australia. and the cdc thinks it’s coming to the u.s.a.
- if i wear a mask, can i still get bbq? there is no evidence that swine flu can be transmitted through eating meat from infected animals.like always, remember to eat your pig well cooked.
i’m thinking that glenn beck and lou dobbs will be all over this tomorrow and that there will be renewed calls for that damn wall to be built overnight. the stimulus money will be diverted from education to wall building, making us a nation of healthy but stupid people.
