excuse me, you dropped your ball
the dept of water and power in LA put 400,000 black balls in the ivanhhoe reservoir – on purpose. the floating plastic balls are suppose to protect the reservoir from the sun. seems the sun is mixing with the bromide, which is found naturally in the water, and chlorine, which is used to kill bateria, to form the carcinogen bromate. it was determined that it would cost too much to use a tarp to cover the reservoir and take too long to build a metal cover so a creative dept of water and power biologist suggested the balls. i think the guy deserves a raise!
