i’m using version 7.noooooooooooo!
experts say there is a flaw in the internet explorer browser that allows criminals to take control of a user’s computer and steal their passwords. so far, about 10,000 websites have been compromised because of it. rick ferguson, senior security advisor at trend micro rick ferguson said, “what we’ve seen from the exploit so far is it stealing game passwords, but it’s inevitable that it will be adapted by criminals…it’s just a question of modifying the payload the trojan installs.”
right now, the best defense is to switch to another browser (firefox, safari, chrome) until microsoft releases a patch to resolve the problem (unfortunately, the problem isn’t just present in the newest release but in all previous versions too).
microsoft security advice
microsoft discourages switching browsers and encourages vigilance. if you want to keep using ie, some advice is below:
- change ie security settings to high (tools menu/internet options)
- switch to a windows user account with limited rights to change a pc’s settings
- with ie7 or 8 on vista turn on protected mode
- ensure your pc is updated
- keep anti-virus and anti-spyware software up to date
