pretty pretty light

lightning safety week is upon us once again this week (june 22-28). it’s estimated that there are 25 million lightning flashes per year and on average, 62 people are struck and killed by lightning each year. 98% of those killed were male, 30% are males between the ages of 20-25, 25% were standing under a tree and 25% occur on or near the water. luckily for this girl, she didn’t fit into any of those statistics. not only did she live, she then bought a lottery ticket and won.

with all the extreme weather we’ve been experiencing, it doesn’t hurt to review the lightning safety tips at the national weather service website, especially if you’re a 20-25 year old male who happens to be around a lot of trees or water. if you’re in boston, check out the museum of science’s theatre of electricity where you’ll not only get some lightning safety tips but also experience some indoor lightning created by the world’s largest van de graaff generator.
