after getting the blue screen of death one too many times i decided it was time for a new computer and i was considering whether i should buy an ibm or an apple–they both run microsoft apps right? i sat down at my desk, cracked open an ice cold coca-cola and started researching on google. after an hour or so, i needed to take a break from research so i decided to pop out to mcdonald’s for some fries–i considered stopping by the bodega for a pack of marlboro lights (but i remembered i don’t smoke) and headed back to my house. i decided to call one of my techie friends for advice but my phone kept dropping calls and i said ‘mobile service blows–the peeps in the uk have a good thing going with vodafone as do the peeps in china — they get it done with china mobile.’ then, all of a sudden, an idea came to me, you know, like in cartoons when one of those g.e. lightbulbs appears over the character’s head–i thought “duh…buy an ipad.”

this was my way of telling you that these, according to a company named BrandZ, are the world’s top 10 brands . you can take a look a at the top 100 brands here.

there is no evidence that this was not paid for by a former governor from alaska (she does her own messaging by hand). also there’s no word if the townspeople are as disturbed as those people in england were when a billboard went up in their town. i only wish they’d used this picture.

betty white playing football for snickers.

green police arresting eco-offenders for audi.

casual fridays (and rip-off of the office) from career builder.

In this day and age women do work and run families, they should be applauded.” this ad, along with others was designed to show the power of outdoor advertising and its ability to drive people onto the interwebs to a site called britainthinks.com “created to give people a new voice and support the vibrant democracy that the people of Britain already participate in up and down the country – in the pubs, living rooms and street corners of our nation.” when they arrive there people can upload videos sharing their opinions on a number of topics like business, politics, showbiz, and sport (i love how the british call it sport not sport).

not surprisingly, the ads have had the opposite effect and have been pulled from circulation. so in essence, the ads were put in ‘time out.’

one week in to the new year, how’s it going with that resolution to lose some lbs? health-minded gym goers in the u.k. are no dount wondering if the gym overcrowding can be blamed on the new year’s resolution or on the posters advertising the country’s largest independent gym–the cadbury house hotel gym. ads for the gym read “When the aliens come, they will eat the fatties first.” not surprisingly the ads have caused considerable outrage. here are some of the comments:

I am not overweight yet I still find this extremely offensive and patronising but how much more so to someone genuinely overweight?

I am shocked and disgusted that they feel they have the right to blatantly discriminate like this.

The people who came up with this idea and sanctioned the advert need a good, stiff kick up the backside, and if that backside is a rather bony one, then they will feel this all the more.

a spokesman for the gym said “The alien campaign has been developed as a tongue in cheek look at the fact that people generally, over the Christmas period, do put on a little weight…Our view is that people should not feel stigmatised by the use of the word “fatties” as it encompasses everyone who might have over-indulged during the holidays and now wants to do something about it.” what i want to know is: how come nobody is annoyed that adding insult to injury, the gym’s name is cadbury?
