here’s the list of the 8 lowest paying jobs in the u.sa. according to data collected about national averages . interesting, the list of jobs used to be summer jobs for youngins but the article says that the jobs are now “are survival jobs for midcareer folks who have been downsized.” courtney cox probably got paid more per hour to be in bruce’s video the back in 1980 when the video was made. next time you’re doing anything that involves entertainment, your house, or putting something in your mouth, remember this.

cashiers: $9.15/hour

hosts and hostesses: $9.23/hour

amusement park attendants: $9.57/hour

who knew that random photo you uploaded to flickr.com might be contributing to some statistical analysis. we use flickr a lot here on sacredbird so this new study from cornell which found the most photograph places based on the photos on flickr was interesting to us. the most photographed landmarks on earth? that would be the eiffel tower followed by trafalgar square followed by the tate modern. new york city was the most photographed city (1,204,137 photos) by the most photographers (35,860 photographers) with the empire state building being the favorite landmark. interestingly, the apple store ranked 5^thas the most photographed “landmark” in new york city. here’s a small snapshot of the data:

i’m surprised it didn’t make the list of the top 10 mispronounced foodie words (maybe chipotle isn’t foodie-enough). it’s pronounced ‘chi-po-t-lay’ not ‘chip-ol-tee’. just like realtor is pronounced ‘real-tour’ not ‘real-a-tor’. anyway, here’s the list via the chicago tribune.

the advocate picked the gayest cities in america. the winner is, wait for it….the ATL (or hotlanta as they like to call it). the atl was followed by burlington vt, iowa city, bloomington, in, madison, wis, new orleans, la, fort lauderdale, fla, portland, me, austin, tx, seattle, wa, gainsville, fla, ashville, nc, springfield, ma, san diego, ca, and albuquerque, nm. how’d they pick these cities you ask? well, they used an interesting set of metrics:

the number of same-sex couple households per capita
gay elected officials
gay dating and hookup profiles per single male population
gay bars per capita
cruising spots per capita
gay films in netflix favorites

and whether or not there is

statewide marriage equality

new york, san francisco, chicago, didn’t make the list. at all. weird.

those words are so last decade

consider that in this new year and decade, there are certain words that are verboten. these words, according to lake superior state university’s 35th annual “list of words banished from the queen’s english for mis-use, over-use and general uselessness” should never be uttered by people again. looking at the list (below), i’ve a few comments: something tells me we’ll be hearing #15 for at least the next three years; #4 will remain huge until people figure out that twitter will go the way of facebook and will look for ways to make money off of your boring tweets communications; and while i know #14 is annoying, i’m still planning to use it.

by now you’ve probably heard that fed head ben bernanke has been named time magazine’s person of the year. of course, dude has had a big year and is probably ready for a nap on the federal holiday coming up next week. what you probably haven’t learned about, though, is the list of folks that almost made the list. here are a few that the magazine profiled (you can browse the entire list here):

the chinese worker – for making sure that china continues to be the fastest growing economy (the country sets an annual goal of 8% growth to main social stability)
general stanley mcchrystal – the architect of the end of the war in afghanistan. also, the fall guy if the you-know-what hits the fan.
nancy pelosi – speaker of the house and target for conservatives everywhere.
usain bolt – fastest man in the world and adverstising gold for his home country jamaica.
neda agha-soltan – the woman that was killed in iran’s uprisings. the frightening video of her death captured the world, for a while.

here are some interesting facts about the 15 jobs with the highest stress and the lowest pay (based on median income and the percent of people that said the job is a major stresser). sad news is, these peeps are in the highest need of a drink at the end of the week but they probably can’t afford a pbr. to those of you in those jobs, wow. to those of not in one of those jobs, i guess the words “suck it up” come to mind the next time you want to complain. here’s the list:

social worker
special events coordinator
probation/parole officer
news reporter
music ministry director
membership manager
fundraiser
commercial photographer
assisted living director
minister
marriage and family therapist
curator
substance abuse counselor
film and tv producer
high school teacher

i was surprised by a few (music director, film and tv producer) but i guess playing the wrong music at someone’s wedding or funeral could get some anger and anyone who works at nbc (leno’s 10 o’clock disaster) has got to be stressed. on the bright side, if they can’t afford that alcoholic beverage, maybe they can afford an aquafina.
