just use your metro card

nicholas sarkozy took the credit this week for brokering a peace deal between the russians and the georgians who are/were/could be (depending on who you talk to) on the brink of war*. i think he should have just hopped the train to belleville, a quaint neighborhood in paris (of the sweet animated movie fame) near the final resting place of jim morrison. much like denmark, something is stinking up the place in belleville, france. the tshirt featured was for sale there.

it is emblazeoned with polish and german words translated as “jews forbidden from entering the park” and are reproductions of the 1940 Nazi signs that targeted the jews in lodz, poland where during that time, about 190,000 of the 200,00 jews were killed. the tshirt was sold for $27 (18 euros) and the shop clerk said that she had sold 5 of them to one person.

the clerk says she didn’t know what the shirt said or meant. maybe it has something to do with french society’s wariness about the stress of talking turkey about the holocaust.
