the nose knows
before you read this, note that new york is hands-down, my favorite place on this earth–except for those unfortunately frequent moments in summer when it ‘smells like new york‘. that ‘smells like new york‘ scent stench is a mixture of urine, feces, vomit, rotting garbage, booze, and god knows what else. it is not constant, but it strikes you in those moments when you least want it (entering the subway in morning, taking an early morning run, when the street cleaners* go by). apparently, i haven’t really explored the different smells of new york because some dude took a weekend and documented what he smelled and he found some lovely stuff amongst the items listed above. take the interactive tour by clicking here to learn what he found.
* by street cleaning i mean, the machine that adds water to the disgusting filth that is new york and turns it into a sludge and spreads it from street to street
